Director Peter Jackson has set aside an Elvish role for his fellow New Zealander -- whose Conchords partner landed a role earlier this year in Men in Black 3 -- in the highly anticipated two-part saga which is currently filming.
The upcoming three act film seeking to recreate the antics of the classic comedy troupe is starting to shape up with two of the famous trio being cast. The Will & Grace star will portray the fiddle playing, curly haired, and quiet member of the witless group.
The famed actor will be joined by his son, and rising star, Jaden Smith in a frightening sci-fi flick directed by The Sixth Sense mastermind M. Night Shyamalan. The untitled film will feature a father and son who struggle to survive after their space ship crash lands on an empty Earth.
Starring Brandon Routh, Sam Huntington and Anita Briem, the film is an adaptation of one of Italy's longest running -- and most popular -- comic series which follows the adventures of a supernatural private eye and his friends.
Announced at WonderCon this last weekend by none other than Bruce Timm himself, the first film of 2012 in the continuing line of direct-to-video, DC Universe Original Animated Movies will be Justice League: Doom.
