JACK REACHER Director Christopher McQuarrie May Helm Adaptation of Tom Clancy's WITHOUT REMORSE

The studio behind a handful of other, upcoming militaristic thrillers is reportedly pursuing McQuarrie to direct an adaptation of famed author Clancy's popular 1993 novel.

In 2010, Shawn Ryan (The Shield) was tapped to pen the script for Paramount's planned adaptation of Tom Clancy's popular spy thriller Without Remorse. The book focuses on a Vietnam veteran by the name of John Kelly, who seeks vengeance on the drug runners who were responsible for the death of a young prostitute and drug mule he befriended. Later recruited into the CIA and taking the last name Clark, John becomes one of the US government's most lethal weapons and the leader of the international anti-terrorism task force Rainbow Six.

The role of Clark has already been brought to life twice on screen, once by Willen Dafoe in the Harrison Ford led film Clear and Present Danger and once by Liev Schreiber in the 2002 film The Sum of All Fears (pictured).

Word has now come out that the studio is looking to Christopher McQuarrie, who is currently working with them on the Lee Child adaptation Jack Reacher starring Tom Cruise, to take over directorial duties on the project. Paramount is also moving forward with another Clancy adaptation, titled Jack Ryan, which will star Chris Pine (Star Trek) in the title role and feature Kenneth Branagh, director of Marvel's Thor and recent star of My Week With Marilyn), as both it's director and villain. There no word yet whether these two films will inhabit the same cinematic universe or feature self contained storylines.
