Marvel Cinematic Universe Expanding with its Own Comic Book Stories

Marvel has been working extremely hard at expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Now, they want to flesh out some of the other aspects and add to the movie experience with comic books set in the same world.

Just as their comics intertwine with each other, so do Marvel's own line of movies. The Iron Man movies, The Incredible Hulk, Thor and Captain America: TFA are all leading up to The Avengers referencing each other and dropping clues as to what will happen or what we will see next. Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Joe Quesada spoke with MTV News at New York Comic Con on how they want to expand the MCU.

"We know the stories that we want to tell, and for the uninitiated, the MCU are going to be stories set within movie continuity."

"[The MCU stories are] not necessarily direct adaptations of the movies, but maybe something that happened off screen and was mentioned in the movie, and we'll tell that story," he continued. "We're working on some very exciting ways on how to market that particular product, but again, this is really just in the beginning stages. If we're able to pull it off, it'll be pretty massive. I think it's going to put the MCU on the map very, very quickly."

"We're really excited about it, because the folks that are involved in the movies on the West Coast will be involved in these stories," he said. "It won't be like one of our comic book writers saw the movie and has an idea for a story. No, these stories are originating at the very top. [Marvel Studios chief] Kevin Feige is involved with these and in some cases maybe the writers of the movies would be involved in these."

I don't know about that. This makes perfect sense to further add to MCU for backstory and fitting in smaller items that won't fit on the big screen.

I like it.

But how far is too far? Are they going to then adapt the comics about the movies based on the comics into a TV series?

I think it all depends on the quality of the product. Are we getting great stories that compliment what we saw in the theater or are we getting a writer's crappy idea that didn't make it to the first draft? There's already been comic series based off of movie and tv media. It could work or fail. I do think it's a smart move from Marvel if they do it right.

I commend Marvel for making such an effort in trying new and interesting ideas, as well as increasing exposure for their properties to the general public.

Thumbs up Marvel.

OMG. Look at Thor's arm vein in that pic. Gross...

Anyways, yeah, Full Retard, you should never go there. No, in all seriousness I don't think this is a bad idea. Basically it's like what Predators and other movies do through Dark Horse, right? I could dig it, IF it's done right like what everyone is saying.
