Zack Snyder Casting an Older Superman?
Published: October 21, 2010 - 1:59pm
An actor who many are petitioning online for the role of Superman gives away a bit of detail on what director Zack Snyder is looking for in his man of steel.

Armie Hammer, who was cast in the now defunct George Miller Justice League film approached director Zack Snyder's people for interest in the role Superman but was turned away and he says why.
"I did talk to my people recently about Zack Snyder's film (Superman: The Man of Steel) for the first time. And I think they're going a little older with Superman. I hear they're going 35, 40," said Hammer.
Snyder is still working out the details for Superman: The Man of Steel, but the plot looks like it will focus on Superman's altar ego Clark Kent traveling the world as a journalist and coping with his powers and contemplating whether or not he should be the man of steel at all.
Superman: The Man of Steel is being produced by Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan and Mad Men star Jon Hamm is still rumored to be in the running to star in the Zack Snyder directed project.

I like this decision. I also think they should just have Clark and Lois married in the film or even dating and she knows Clark is Superman. After so many years of Smallville I'm tired of the whole will they/won't they crap. LOL also don't focus on too much back story. Just dive straight into here and now. Does that make sense?

Being that I'm a huge Kingdom Come fan, I love it.

A good opening for the film would be something along the lines of what Marvel did for Hulk. A synapses of the origin in the opening credits, and roll straight into the story. Everyone knows the origin of Superman, no need to see it again on film.

Exactly. I absolutely agree.

Oh, but I think they missed some of the nuances the first five times.

Thumbs up! It sounds like a move forward. They don't even need to mention his origin like Superman Returns, but a few relevant flashbacks would be nice. Any Superman movie will always be my most anticipated. I hope casting doesn't disappoint.

Easy there trigger. This is a little bit of a reading into things, as we have no idea when "recently" was and per his quote, there is no indication he talked or his people talked to Snyder. He said that he talked to his people and he (Hammer) THINKS they are going with an older actor. Kind of a stretch as his people could have talked to someone prior to Snyder taking the helm as he just recently took the helm. Snyder has said "the film will focus on early days of Superman" and has also mentioned the first year or two of Kent being at the Daily Planet. I wouldn't take Hammer's comment too seriously.

Well, seeing that the title ends with a question mark, I think it's safe to say it's intended to be taken as speculation and not fact.

Well, I don't think a viewing audience would have a problem jumping straight into a superman story in which he's been previously established and in full swing as a hero, or on the cusp thereof. They could move right into him fighting some super-baddie, his powers and abilities already established.

I was being sarcastic. They could skip the origin all together if it gave more time for a great movie.

Not sure how I feel about this. Older and more experienced worked for Iron Man. I hope this move doesn't make it too difficult to connect with this random older guy (isn't supes supposed to be super-youthful?)... OH $#!+!!! Is this what the Matthew Fox thing was all about?
