Two more actresses have been added to the continued search for lead roles in the reboot of the Spider-Man franchise. Included in this report is that Oscar award winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman may take on the role of Venom.

Actresses Dianna Agron (Glee) and Georgina Haig, (Wasted on the Young) have been added to the search for characters Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy. As reported last week the reboot is Looking to Add Two Female Leads. These two along with Emma Stone, Mia Wasikowska and Dominique McElligott from last week are all in the mix at this point. No word on which roles the actresses are screen testing for. Agron just tested yesterday although her involvement in the hit TV series could very well be a factor for meeting the shooting schedule.

The most intriguing part of the entire story is the last few sentences wrapping up the actress search:
All this should be wrapped up shortly and then we can get on to speculating about the villain. Early unconfirmed talk: they want to bring back Venom and they are looking at Philip Seymour Hoffman.
BAFTA Award winning actor Andrew Garfield will be swinging into theaters as the new Spider-Man in the Marc Webb directed reboot, which is scheduled for 3D theatrical release July 3rd, 2012.

It doesn't seem to make any sense to me to have him in this particular role! He makes a great villain (see Mission: Impossible 3) but it would seem strange for him to take on this role. Perhaps voice over?

He's blond, he's a good actor, but he's NOT Eddie Brock. He's no more Eddie than Topher Grace was. I could see him as Doc Ock.........though I'd rather not. lol

This is a joke right? Philip Seymour Hoffman as VENOM??!! This gotta be a typo! I'm sure it meant "Philip Seymour Hoffman as Doctor Octopus"!! WHAT??!! They're interested in casting PSH in Spider-Man as the villain and its not the role every fans want him to play, Doc Ock, but VENOM??!!

he's a big guy - so this is strange ONLY because of his weight. If he gets in shape though? F-ing amazing choice.
Guy's an Academy Award winner - grow up.

I just wonder if this means they're going to do the whole symbiote storyline again, or if Venom will be introduced some other way. I'm intrigued, to say the least. I hope they don't try to cram too much into one movie. SM3 was so convoluted by the third act, and I've voiced my displeasure regarding the use of Venom in that movie on this site before so I won't go into that, but I'd really like to see Eddie Brock done well. I'm pretty much passed the "he doesn't look like so-and-so" thing cause I've been proven wrong many times in the past, so I'm up for giving Hoffman a shot.

Its strange due to his age and the direction we know this movie is taking. Hoffman doesn't seem to fit into any of the comics previous hosts. The movie is obviously skewing toward a younger demo with their plan.
BTW, I refuse to grow up!
