Side-by-Side Comparison of the CAPTAIN AMERICA Movie Set & 1940s New York City
Published: September 21, 2010 - 11:50pm
The City of Manchester has gone through a drastic transformation to mimic the look and feel of New York City circa the 1940s. In these actual photographs from the era, we can see how well the production team has done.
Before Marvel Studios unleashes their ensemble superhero film, The Avengers, in 2012, fans around the world will get the opportunity to see two more of the team's heroes star in their own solo films. Thor has already entered the post production process; where the director and crew will spend the next several months editing footage and adding special effects in preparation for the film's May 6th, 2011 theatrical release. The cameras have only recently began rolling for Captain America: The First Avenger throughout scattered UK filming locations. The movie is a period piece set during World War II, with modern day scenes bookending the story, with Chris Evan portraying the title character who becomes the Star Spangled Avenger:
A brave, yet mild-mannered young soldier named Steve Rogers volunteers to undergo a series of experiments for the secretive, US Army Super Soldier Program. The military succeeds in transforming him into a human weapon, but quickly decide that their Super Soldier is far too expensive a creation to risk in combat. They decide to put him to use as an Army celebrity and parade him across Europe USO shows for American troops in an effort to boost morale. He is even given a costume which bears the colors of Old Glory for the stage. When a Nazi plot reveals itself, Rogers must rise up and and become the First Avenger, in order to save his country. Captain America earns his way into the hearts and souls of every American, bringing hope and justice to a war-weary nation. Later, during a mission to Germany to stop his archenemy - The Red Skull, from launching rockets at the allies, Captain America must decide whether to make the ultimate sacrifice to save the world from destruction.
Thanks to MarvelMovieNews UK and CaptainAmericaFilminginManchester, we can now compare how accurately the set production crews have transformed the streets of Manchester into the Lower East Side of New York City. The images to the left are actual photographs of the ear, while the images to the right are of the film set:
Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci, Haley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper Toby Jones and Neal McDonough. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on July 22nd, 2011.

Since they're working 'around' the architecture of English streets and shops I think this is fantastic!

Good God, look how empty the street is in that first pic
That is shocking!
The only glaring omission that I see would be the fire escapes in the last pic of NY. Other than that, looks like they are doing great.

WTF! There's no crane lift in the last original NY pic! It must be a HYDRA machine. Why has nobody else picked up on this?

Damn, I didn't notice that
It's obvious this movie will fail miserably.
