"Huddy" Fever This Season on HOUSE

The new coupling of House to his boss Lisa Cuddy is getting fans giddy with excitement for the new season, but is it a doomed relationship?

The seventh season doesn’t kick off until September 20, but fans are already showing symptoms of “Huddy” fever. Last season ended with the long anticipated joining of House and his boss, Lisa Cuddy which left fans in awe and fear of what will unfold for the two characters. Michael Ausiello spoiled what fans have to look forward to in the premiere episode,

“If you’re a Huddy fan, you’re going to swoon yourself silly. The Sept. 20 opener features the star-crossed lovers cuddling, bathing, massaging, champagne-toasting, and—of course—kissing. I think I counted a dozen smooches in the first 15 minutes alone”

Apparently in the premiere we will see a version of House who’s happy to be smiling, laughing, and canoodling on the beach with his new girlfriend and Laurie is welcoming the change, as weird as it may be for him, “Even the appearance of happiness [in House] has taken some getting used to,” he says. “I had a week of happiness training before the season started up, and I’m whistling more than usual.”

When Hugh Laurie was asked if he was happy about the two characters finally being paired up he said, “I care less about what happens than how it happens. And if you do it right, it will work. And if we don’t do it right, nothing works. But I think we’ve danced around the idea long enough; it was time to take some action.”

Well fans care about what happens and many fear it is a doomed relationship, “I don’t think [so], necessarily,” Hugh Laurie told Michael Ausiello, “But let’s face it, neither of these characters has a clean license. Buckle up,” he adds, “would be my advice.”

Lisa Edelstein, who portrays Lisa Cuddy, shares her apprehension with Entertainment Weekly, “I was terrified of saying ‘I love you,’” she admits. “But I think that in the final scene of season 6, Cuddy makes it clear that she’s ready to go for it.”

"House and Cuddy alone in a room have had chemistry—that's never been in doubt," says exec producer Katie Jacobs. "Can it work in the real world? Can it work with them being co-workers? She's his boss, she has a kid, he's always breaking the rules... Can it work? I don't know, but that's the question [this season]. And she's not necessarily trying to change him. It's not like she goes, 'Oh well, I'll give it a try with House and hopefully he'll grow up.' He's never going to grow up. And she sort of thinks, 'I love him enough, maybe it could work. It's complicated.'"

“I don’t think we have a Sam and Diane problem. We’re doing some really neat stuff with it, the shows still the show, we still have the show. House is still House and Cuddy is still Cuddy; they’re just together a little more.” says Series Creator David Shore, “It does become weird at work but we’ve got a whole series of obstacles for them to overcome in a House like way, we’re having fun with them.”

One of the obstacles facing them is the appearance of Cuddy’s mother, who will be portrayed by Candice Bergen best known for playing Murphy Brown on the show of the same name. Her first episode will air in November, and she is expected to be in more than one episode and no doubt fans are hoping that "Huddy" is still going strong so that the awkward "meet the parents" scenario plays out.

Another obstacle will be is whether or not House and Cuddy will work with a child involved, “She’s a single parent, and I think it’s only right that we deal with that issue,” says exec producer Katie Jacobs. “House is her significant other, and she also has a kid. We will explore the reality of what that means and how willing Cuddy is at first to share Rachel and expose her child to the relationship. And because it is a real relationship, I think she feels obligated to.”
