While simply stunning on an IMAX 3D screen, and by far the most technologically advanced film to date, the near 3 hour runtime has no story to keep you interested, and leaves you wondering, "When is this going to end?"

I loved the action sequences, but I found that most scenes where it was just the humans annoying. It was way too long, and many of those scenes were unnecessary. I often found myself wondering when the movie would be over. On the other hand, Optimus Prime and some of the other Autobots were amazing, and so was the last portion of the film. Overall, I enjoyed this movie and thought that it was an improvement upon Revenge of the Fallen.

I probably would've enjoyed the film more if I hadn't seen it in 3D. I found myself wishing it would end with some 45 minutes left to go, when usually I have no problem sitting through longer films. Content wise Bay once again failed to put the emphasis on the 'bots themselves, instead choosing to spend time setting up bad jokes between the humans and keeping the camera on Megan Fox 2.0 for unnaturally long periods of time. Overall, pretty much in line with the rest of the Transformers films, gotta sit through the plotless chunks of poorly handled human drama to get to the freakin' sweet CGI fight scenes.

The final hour of DOTM is an amazing visual treat. Beautiful, well lighted 3D accentuates some incredible battle pieces of not only robots fighting but humans doing some nifty action of their own. It would seem Michael Bay truly listened to some of the accusations of fans from Revenge of the Fallen. Blurry, too fast paced metal grinding action has been replaced by some well thought out fighting with a healthy dose of Zack “slomo-sexual” Snyder camera work to allow you truly take in what’s going on here.

As for substance, there is little here leading up to the battle. Transformers: Dark of the Moon is somewhat better plotted than ROTF but that really isn’t saying much. Racist characters and humping robots are replaced by women being both simultaneously objectified and demeaned along with ham-fisted cartoony characterizations from much of the cast, most notably Shia LaBeouf, John Malkovich, Alan Tudyk and a bizarre over the top turn from Ken Jeong who appeared to jump right off The Hangover 2 set.

Yeah I already had an extensive discussion on this and don't really want to do it again.

Bottom line: Massive let down and dare I say boring.

I know that the number one rule in the Transformer franchise is “don’t go expecting a good plot”. But there is just so much one can take, especially when they expect that you remain interested for almost 3 hours. And oh, how long they feel, between huge plot holes and retcons, the usual style of “comedy” that’s getting old and anything but funny, and a main character that is as charming as the tool that plays it.

And talking about characters, one has to wonder how large was the paycheck of some of these actors that they accepted to play roles with the same weight and quality as the Transformers that serve as background filler.

Which leads me to our transforming fellas. How I wish my electronics were as resilient as some of these guys, am I right? With the exception of 2 specific scenes and a bunch of presidents, this must be some of the most impressive CGI to date, the guys at ILM really outdone themselves this time. No blurry crap, but incredibly detailed renders of even the most insignificant Decepticons.

And let’s face it, for all the talent that Michael Bay lacks as a storyteller he absolutely compensates it with amazing action choreographies and fucking huge explosions involving the only interesting part of the film, the god damn robots beating the [crap] out of each other.

At the end of the day DOTM delivers what’s expected from a Transformers film, if only in an uneven and tiresomely long experience; a better product than ROTF, but then again that’s not hard to achieve.

I don't go into Transformers movies in an attempt to makes sense of the humans-meet-robots-help-humans-hate-robots-save-humans story lines. I could care less about any of the actors in these movies with the exception of Megan Fox (not because of her acting chops or lack thereof, but because she was the new wave of cinematic eye candy). Give me heart pounding, in-your-face action and Michael Bay sure delivered in that aspect. TF3 has some of the best effects and 3D I've seen yet. I'll be watching the last 1/3 of the flick over and over come Blu-ray time.
